Long necklaces

At dinh van, most necklaces measure between 42 and 45 cm. The motif rests in the hollow of the neck, framed by a collar. Long necklaces start at 60 cm. With these extra twenty centimetres, the piece moves away from the neck, falls across the chest and takes on a more pronounced presence.

Each of the Maison’s designs available in this length has its own distinctive appeal. The Menottes dinh van in medium and XL sizes comes in a 60 cm version, a length designed with men in mind but by no means reserved for them. The medium Pavé in yellow gold also falls at 60 cm and can be adjusted to 55 cm using a sizing ring. In black titanium, Le Cube Diamant comes on a 60 cm cable chain, with two rings allowing it to be shortened to 55 or 50 cm. The Razor Blade and a plain cable chain are also available in the same material.

At 80 cm, the sautoir length, the Maillon S chain stands out. Its square profile was designed in 1968, inspired by the links found at Place de l’Opéra. It can be worn on its own or with Le Pavé, in either yellow gold or silver. At this length, the pendant rests at the centre of the chest and slips effortlessly over a jumper or an open jacket.

Length is first and foremost an invitation to layer. A 42 cm necklace, a 60 cm design and an 80 cm chain create three distinct levels, allowing each motif to retain its place. Contrasting materials add another dimension: yellow gold against black titanium, or a silver Pavé layered above a yellow gold Menottes dinh van.

This is also one of the most versatile, gender-neutral formats in the collection. Most of these necklaces are listed in the men’s selection, yet the right length is determined by the neckline and silhouette, not by gender. A high neckline lends itself to an 80 cm chain, while an open shirt works well with 60 cm. To find the right fit, measure a necklace you already wear. The difference between your current piece and a 60 or 80 cm length is easier to appreciate when worn than in a photograph.
